Plettenberg Bay is celebrating an incredible start to the summer season after receiving eight Blue Flag Awards for 2025/2026. This prestigious international recognition confirms that the region's coast continues to set a high standard for environmental care, safety, and coastal excellence.
Recognising Coastal Excellence
The impressive list of honours includes:
- Six Blue Flag Beaches: The stunning beaches that will fly the Blue Flag this season are Lookout, Robberg 5, The Waves, The Dunes, Singing Kettle, and Nature’s Valley.
- Two Blue Flag Eco-Tourism Vessels: Two boats operated by Offshore Adventures also earned the prestigious status, marking their 11th consecutive year of international recognition.
In addition to the Blue Flag honours, the unspoiled beauty of Nature's Valley received a WESSA Green Coast Award, highlighting its exceptional natural preservation.
A Powerful Endorsement of Commitment
These awards, handed out at the 2025/2026 WESSA Awards, are a powerful endorsement of Bitou Municipality’s commitment to maintaining safe, clean, and environmentally responsible coastal spaces.
Bitou Municipality communications manager Andile Namntu noted that the awards reflect the "hard work of dedicated teams who ensure our natural assets remain world-class."
For a town like Plettenberg Bay, where tourism is central to its identity and economy, the Blue Flag status sends a powerful message. Clean, safe, and well-managed beaches are a major draw for visitors.
Offshore Adventures, also recently honoured with a Global Tourism Excellence Award (GTEA), is a driving force behind these standards. Owner Jaco Kruger emphasised the significance of the Blue Flag status, stating that this recognition "is a clear reflection of our team’s deep-seated commitment to sustainable tourism, responsible wildlife interaction, and actively supporting our local community."
This widespread recognition, representing over a decade of international honours for the region, ensures that the beautiful beaches of Plettenberg Bay are ready and waiting to welcome thousands of visitors for the summer season.
