The mountains, cliffs, forests, fields, and beaches of Plettenberg Bay are crisscrossed with hiking and running trails offering breath-taking views and immersion in nature.

Here are three of our favorite trails.

ROBBERG NATURE RESERVE

The Robberg Hiking Trail is the most popular and scenic trails in the Garden Route.  The reserve is also a World Heritage Site and marine protected area home to 6000 cape fur seals and other wildlife.

STORMS RIVER MOUTH

The Storms River Mouth Rest Camp is located in the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park features several hiking trails ranging in duration and difficulty. The most popular trail is the 1 hour mouth trail along a winding board walk through indigenous forest to the mouth of the Storm River, the famous suspension bridge and the Storms river Mouth Cave (Khoisan Heritage Site).

KRANSHOEK TRAILS

The Kranshoek view point located In Harkerville, between Plettenberg Bay and Knysna  is the starting point for these two trails

The Harkerville Forest Walk is  an easy 1km circular walk through indigenous forest from the Kranshoek picnic site. The objective of this walk is to learn more about the forest and the plants that grow in it. This walk is ideal for young and old so take the kids and introduce them to this wonderful forest environment.

The Kranshoek Hiking Trail is for the more skilled hikers. A circular walk, which traverses the amazing coastal scenery of the Garden Route. The full walk of 2 to 5 hours (dependent on whether the 3km or 9km route is taken), is fairly tough, especially in hot weather, and demands a descent and ascent of 200 meters. The walk passes through prime examples of high forest, crosses sections of coastal Fynbos and takes the hiker along some breathtaking natural scenery along a cliff coast.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or are simply interested in taking a leisurely walk along the coast, there are plenty of places to wander. Remember to bring your camera, slap on the sunscreen and bring plenty of water. Enjoy your hike!
