If you love the sea, it’s time to pack your bags. The Plett Ocean Festival is returning for its landmark 5th anniversary from 3 – 12 July 2026. This winter, Plettenberg Bay transforms into a coastal playground where science, adventure, and community spirit meet.
Under the inspiring theme "Observe. Conserve. Preserve" the festival offers something for everyone. Whether you are a family looking for fun activities or a deep-sea enthusiast, you'll find plenty to explore across our beautiful town.
MEET ZANDI THE MERMAID
We are thrilled to welcome back the incredible Zandile Ndlovu, known as "Zandi the Mermaid." As a filmmaker and freediver, Zandi will be the Master of Ceremonies for the Marine Science Symposium and will also host storytelling sessions and underwater workshops for local youth.
Reflecting on the importance of the event, Zandile says:
“We’re 5 years to 2030, with so many commitments to nature and biodiversity protection from a high level, there’s never been a more critical time to bring community, science and conservation efforts together, I’m beyond excited to be taking us on this journey once again.”

The 2026 lineup is packed with coastal action. Here is a taste of what to expect:

THE MARINE SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM
For those who want to dive deeper into the "why" behind conservation, the Marine Science Symposium runs from 10 – 12 July at the Beacon Island Resort. This isn't just for academics—it’s a space where world-class researchers share their stories with the public in a way that is easy to understand and engage with.
Festival director Cindy Wilson Trollip notes the impact of the event, saying:
“We are seeing a shift in how people perceive and protect our marine ecosystems – moving from simple curiosity to meaningful, active stewardship.”
