Spring has a way of pulling Plettenberg Bay outdoors, and this year it's bringing the town's creative community with it. From 25 September to 4 October 2026, the Plett ARTS Festival returns for ten days that turn beaches, forest trails, and Main Street into one sprawling, open-air gallery.
The festival's 2026 theme, Connect in Plett, is less a slogan than a description of what actually happens here every spring: locals and visitors bumping into each other at a pop-up exhibition, striking up a conversation over wine and canapés, or stumbling across a sculpture that wasn't there yesterday and won't be there tomorrow. It's a reminder that this stretch of coastline has always inspired more than sunbathing.
What's worth building your trip around
If you only have time for one thing, make it the Plett Land Art Route. Local artists work directly with the coastline — beaches, estuaries, forest edges — building sculptures out of driftwood, stone, and whatever the tide leaves behind. The pieces are meant to be temporary, reshaped or erased by the next high tide, which makes finding one feel a bit like being let in on a secret.
For evenings, the Twilight Meander is the festival at its most social. Galleries and studios along Main Street stay open late, spilling music and conversation onto the pavement — it's the kind of evening where you plan to pop in for twenty minutes and end up staying for two hours.
Beyond those two anchor events, the ten days are packed with smaller moments worth carving out time for:
- Workshops in pottery, painting, and floral design for anyone who wants to leave with more than photos
- A dinner-and-art evening at Nguni Restaurant pairing a tasting menu with the visual arts
- A wine and canapés afternoon at Barrington's
- The debut collaboration between Janey Mitchell and the Breezin' Band, for anyone who'd rather let the art come to them with a glass in hand
Making a weekend of it
Ten days is generous, but most visitors will want to pick a long weekend and let the festival set the pace. The Land Art Route rewards an unhurried morning walk, while the Twilight Meander is very much a late-afternoon-into-evening plan — which means you'll want a base close enough to Main Street that you're not driving back tired after a glass of Barrington's best.
Whichever days you choose, book early. Plett fills up fast once spring events start landing on people's calendars, and the accommodation with the best walk to Main Street tends to go first.
