Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary has added an exciting new activity for visitors to enjoy: FootGolf @ Monkeyland, officially opened in September 2025.
Located along the road leading to the entrance of Monkeyland and Birds of Eden, the new nine-hole FootGolf course combines outdoor fun, light exercise, and the beauty of nature into one unforgettable experience.
The Lush Greens of FootGolf @ Monkeyland
As visitors make their way towards the world-famous sanctuaries, they are now welcomed by the vibrant fairways and greens of the FootGolf course. Each of the nine holes offers its own challenge and charm, creating a relaxed yet competitive setting for families, friends, and groups.
While technically designed as a Mashie-style course, the emphasis is firmly on fun and accessibility. There’s no need for prior sporting skill—if you can kick a ball, you can play FootGolf.
What is FootGolf?
FootGolf is a fast-growing global sport that blends the accuracy of golf with the energy of football. Players kick a size-5 football into oversized cups, aiming to finish each hole in as few kicks as possible. The Monkeyland course offers short, playful holes—perfect for newcomers and seasoned players alike.
Perfect for All Ages
FootGolf @ Monkeyland is more than a game—it’s an outing. Whether you’re a sports enthusiast or someone who prefers to cheer from the sidelines, this is the one activity everyone can enjoy together.
- For kids: A fun way to stay active outdoors.
- For families: A bonding experience that gets everyone laughing and competing.
- For visitors: An extra activity to complement a sanctuary tour.
- For everyone: A chance to spend quality time in nature, proving that no day outdoors is ever wasted.

A Natural Extension of Monkeyland’s Spirit
Since 1998, Monkeyland has been at the forefront of ethical tourism, offering visitors an immersive walk through 12 hectares of indigenous forest, home to more than 550 free-roaming primates. The addition of FootGolf extends that mission of family-friendly, conservation-minded fun by keeping visitors active, outdoors, and engaged with nature.
“FootGolf @ Monkeyland is the perfect add-on to a sanctuary visit,” says the team at Monkeyland. “It’s inclusive, fun, and something that gets the whole family involved—no matter your age, fitness level, or sporting background.”
Looking Ahead: More FootGolf on the Horizon
The launch of FootGolf @ Monkeyland is just the beginning. Before September turns into October, Primates Resort—the owners of Monkeyland—will open a second FootGolf course in KwaZulu Natal at The Hidden Forest Wildlife Sanctuary, just outside Ballito. FootGolf @ Hidden Forest will feature its own nine-hole Mashie-style course, located at the sanctuary’s reception area.
Closer to home, Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary is preparing to open its own nine-hole FootGolf course before the end of the school year. With FootGolf @ Jukani in play, visitors will soon be able to purchase a combination ticket for both FootGolf @ Monkeyland and FootGolf @ Jukani, creating a fun-filled 18-hole FootGolf day in The Crags.
Keep an eye on Monkeyland’s social media channels for official opening dates for these exciting new courses.
